A Story

fire17faerieJul. 25th, 2005 08:48 pm

John paced hurriedly back and forth across the dented wooden floor, constantly checking his watch. He was not so patiently waiting for the doorbell to ring. Then suddenly, there was a soft knock at the door. John's entire body tensed as he readied himself for the confrontation, stealthily drawing his bloodstained machete from its leather sheath. He felt the bones in his knees clacking together as his heart battered his ribs.

The silent rage inside him shrieked up just enough to squelch his overwhelming nervousness, and he reached for the doorknob. Then in came the police officer's curious head and down went the used, but sharp blade.

As the officer's head clunked to the ground and his body seized up and went limp, voices outside the door signaled their surprised confusion.

One matronly voice roared through the mail slot: "John, open up this door for the nice policemen, or Mommy will be extremely angry and put you in TIME OUT--you are already quite grounded for decapitating Detective Melville!" The sound of his mother's voice made him suck his tongue into his lungs in a strident gasp.

All of a sudden, a soft scratching sound came from his now dead sister's room.
